Suas lentes flagraram um urso polar adulto faminto e lutando para sobreviver. O corpo do animal é praticamente pele e osso.

“Isso é o resultado das mudanças climática“, escreveu o fotógrafo à revista National Geographic.

O fotógrafo faz parte de um grupo de conservação ambiental chamando Sea Legacy. O animal está com manchas de sujeira e revirando latas de lixo deixadas pelos pescadores locais.

Em seu relato no Instagram, Paul ainda chama a atenção para o impacto ambiental que está acontecendo no Ártico.

“Quando os cientistas dizem que os ursos estão extintos, eu quero que as pessoas entendam o que isso quer dizer. Os ursos morrerão de fome. Isto é como se parece um urso faminto. É uma cena que esmaga a alma e que ainda me assombra”, escreveu.

My entire @Sea_Legacy team was pushing through their tears and emotions while documenting this dying polar bear. It’s a soul-crushing scene that still haunts me, but I know we need to share both the beautiful and the heartbreaking if we are going to break down the walls of apathy.
